Why did you want to get involved with Images for a Cure?
We have all been affected by Breast Cancer or know someone who has been affected.  For me personally, my Aunt’s best friend lost her battle, my mother-in-law won her battle, and my best friend’s mother lost her battle with lung cancer.  I have seen and shed so many tears, and want to make a difference.  When I saw the links come thru on Facebook, I immediately knew that this was my chance to make a difference by doing something that I love.

How has Breast Cancer (or any cancer) made an impact on your life?
As a daughter, mother, and sister it absolutely terrifies me to think of cancer taking my life or the lives of those close to me.  I watched my best friend go thru such heartache when her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and take her life 3-4 months later.  I want more for my children.  I want cures to be found so they don’t have to experience such heartache.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
At one point I wanted to be a Pediatric Physical Therapist.  Kids don’t loose hope when they get hurt.  They have an uncanny way to believe that they can do anything.  It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I realized that I had an incredible passion for photography.  My grandfather was a professional photographer, MANY years ago.  After he passed away, I soon found an insatiable urge to capture the moments that life presents to us.  It is completely all consuming for me now.

Why did you want to get involved with Images for a Cure?
If we can do one thing that is bigger than us, give our time, our support emotionally and financially to funding research for this important cause, then we are better for it.  We want to spread the word that we can fight this thing, continue the vital research and save more lives.  Every dollar helps!

How has Breast Cancer (or any cancer) made an impact on your life?
I recently lost my sister-in-law to various cancer including breast cancer and, after a 10-year battle, to see the fight and determination and that “I’m going to beat this thing” taken away is devastating.

There are so many causes out there, why should I donate to this one?
Images For A Cure sets the challenge for photographers and people everywhere with a ONE-DAY opportunity to make a huge difference.  Not only are we donating financially, clients will receive professional images that will always hold a truly special meaning.

Why did you want to get involved with Images for a Cure?
The opportunity to do something I love in order to help raise money for this cause, a cause which has touched so many lives, is something I didn’t even have to think twice about.  I’m honored to be involved.

How has Breast Cancer (or any cancer) made an impact on your life?
My mom was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma a few years ago.  It was diagnosed early and successfully treated.  You know it’s out there but when it hits that close to home it is definitely a wake-up call.

Tell me something about yourself.
I love quotes and frequently find a new favorite.  The latest treasure:

“What if in your dream you went to heaven and there plucked a strange and beautiful flower?  And what if, when you woke, you had the flower in your hand?  Ah!  What then?”

~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge

  • Amanda's Mom: You are so special and I love you. Thank you for caring, for giving and supporting. Mom

  • Cynthia: Amanda has been a very good friend of mine for years. Funny, articulate, caring and compassionate are the first of a zillion words that could be used to describe her. She has an incredibly artistic vision and lives her life without restriction. She is passionate and loyal and with the touch of a sculptor. Her photos are marvelous and show the eye/vision she has. If I was close enough for a session, I would do so in a heartbeat. Amanda is your woman!

Why did you want to get involved with Images for a Cure?
So many of us have been touched in some way or another by cancer.  How sad it is that nearly every one of us can say we have known someone affected by cancer.  I’ve always been a humanitarian at heart, but I feel an especially strong passion for women’s health causes.    After all, there’s a woman in all of our lives that we love, and that love us.  Women bring life into this world – not single handedly of course, but there is a beauty and a magic about women.   And I strongly believe in doing all we can as much as we can.

How has Breast Cancer (or any cancer) made an impact on your life?
Fortunately, our immediate family has not been affected by Breast Cancer, but we have had battles with other cancers with my grandparents, aunts and uncles.  However, through volunteering with various cancer organizations, I have met some wonderful women who have fought the battle against breast cancer.  Their strength and determination always astounds me.

Tell me about yourself?
I am a mother and professional photographer living on the beautiful Emerald Coast in Destin, Fl.  I have two beautiful children who inspire me each and every day.  It also makes me more passionate about this cause – seeing a cure so that my daughter never has to know the pain of the effects of breast cancer.  I have always been a volunteer and humanitarian at heart, though – and strive to instill those same beliefs and values into my children.  I try to involve them in as much volunteer work as possible.

Why did you want to get involved with Images for a Cure?
I love the concept and the cause behind it. Also, I find it way too easy to participate, meaning there is not excuses to get portrayed this upcoming October 11th :)

How has Breast Cancer (or any cancer) made an impact on your life?
Luckily cancer doesn’t run in my family but I’m well aware of what Breast Cancer and I’m always looking for opportunities where I can make a difference as a photographer, as a woman. Currently I’m paying it forward being part of the thinkpinkphotography.com team and you can find a designhergals.com badge on my blog that invites all my readers to raise funds for Stage VI Breast Cancer patients through a % of their purchase. This little contribution from my part has added 233 new members to the cause and over $3,000 in orders, neat!

What’s your favorite quotation?
“Count your blessings now for the long run” – Pink
